Exceeding these limits causes rapid polymerisation, fouling and fire risk. In Saudi refineries, bulk fluid temperature is monitored at the heater outlet; Saudi Aramco SAES-L-450 and SAES-J-902 specify that thermal fluid system design must maintain a minimum 20°C margin between maximum film temperature and the fluid's auto-ignition temperature.
