Three ASTM/API standards govern the majority of carbon steel pipe specified on Saudi Aramco and SABIC projects. Selecting the correct standard is the first step in any piping material requisition — each standard covers different service conditions, manufacturing methods, and test requirements.
Seamless carbon steel pipe for high-temperature service. The default carbon steel pipe specification on virtually every Saudi Aramco piping class for process service. Minimum tensile 415 MPa, yield 240 MPa, C≤0.30%. Suitable from −29°C to +427°C with creep allowance to 538°C.
Line pipe standard for oil and gas transmission and gathering systems. Available seamless (SMLS) and submerged arc welded (SAW). Higher strength grades X42–X65 allow thinner walls at operating pressures used in long-distance pipelines. PSL 1 and PSL 2 (stricter chemistry, testing, and traceability).
Welded and seamless black and hot-dipped galvanised pipe for mechanical and pressure applications. Minimum tensile 414 MPa, yield 241 MPa — essentially identical to A106 Grade B but covers ERW welded pipe and galvanised applications. Suitable for water, steam, and non-critical process services.

Saudi Aramco Engineering Procedure SAEP-347 (Annex 4) assigns unique material numbers to approved pipe grades. When placing an order against a Saudi Aramco material requisition, you must reference the SAEP-347 material number, not just the ASTM/API grade. Gulf Union Ozone stores SAEP-347 documentation for all pipe grades we stock.
| SAEP-347 Material No. | ASTM / API Grade | Type | Service Temperature Range | GUO Stock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A-025 | ASTM A106 Gr.B (SMLS) | Process pipe — seamless | -29°C to 427°C | Ex-stock Jeddah |
| A-026 | ASTM A106 Gr.B (SMLS) — impact tested | Low-temp process pipe | -46°C to 427°C | On order |
| A-028 | API 5L Gr.B PSL 1 (SMLS) | Low-pressure line pipe | -29°C to 371°C | Ex-stock Jeddah |

Saudi Aramco gas gathering and processing facilities frequently handle H₂S-bearing fluids. ASTM A106 Grade B seamless pipe can be used in sour service when it meets NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 hardness requirements. Key requirements for carbon steel pipe in sour service:
Maximum hardness 22 HRC (250 HBW) for pipe body. Weld heat-affected zones must also meet 22 HRC maximum. NACE MR0175 Section 7.3 applies to wrought carbon steel pipe.
ASTM A106 Grade B is supplied in the as-rolled or normalized condition. For sour service, normalized supply condition (min 870°C air cooled) is recommended to ensure uniform microstructure and consistent hardness below 250 HBW.
Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) testing per NACE TM0284 is typically specified for carbon steel pipe in wet sour service (liquid water + H₂S). SAES-L-133 requires HIC-resistant CS pipe where partial pressure of H₂S exceeds threshold. Available on project order with mill certification.
Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) mandatory for carbon steel pipe welds in sour service per SAES-W-012 when wall thickness exceeds 19.1mm (ASME B31.3) or when SAES-L-133 specifies it for thinner walls in certain service conditions.
For comprehensive sour service material selection across pipes, fittings, valves, and flanges, see our NACE MR0175 sour service materials guide.

Gulf Union Ozone stocks A106 Gr.B and API 5L Gr.B ex-stock from our Jeddah warehouse. Include the SAEP-347 material number in your RFQ for fastest confirmation.
Carbon steel pipes are the highest-volume piping material at Saudi Aramco and SABIC facilities — used for process, utility, firewater, and cooling-water systems. Gulf Union Ozone supplies ASTM A106 Grade B seamless pipe for process service, ASTM A53 Grade B ERW and seamless for utility service, and API 5L Grade B, X42, X52, X60, and X65 for oil and gas transmission pipelines. All pipe is supplied with mill test certificates per EN 10204 2.1 as standard; EN 10204 3.1 is available on request for Saudi Aramco Goods Receipt compliance. SAEP-347 Annex 4 specifies material numbers for carbon steel piping components — Gulf Union Ozone cross-references SAEP-347 material numbers on all pipe supply quotations to simplify Aramco Material Requisition (MR) documentation. Pipe is held in Schedules 40, 80, 160, and XXS across the full NPS range from ½ inch to 24 inches in diameter.
ASTM A106 covers seamless carbon steel pipe specifically for high-temperature service in process piping applications — refineries, petrochemical plants, and utility systems. It is manufactured only as seamless pipe and has fixed Grade B chemistry and properties. API 5L is a line pipe standard designed for oil and gas gathering and transmission. It comes in higher-strength grades (X42 through X80) and can be seamless (SMLS) or longitudinally welded (SAW/ERW). For Aramco process piping, A106 Gr.B is the standard selection; for gathering lines and pipelines, API 5L is specified. See our API 5L vs ASTM A106 comparison guide for a full breakdown.
Carbon steel pipe for Saudi Aramco sour-service applications must comply with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 — standard ASTM A106 Gr B is acceptable for sweet crude oil service but requires additional hardness testing for H₂S-containing process streams. Gulf Union Ozone supplies pipe with Vickers hardness certificates (maximum HV250 per NACE MR0175) for sour-gas headers and produced-water piping at GOSPs. Heat treatment — normalised or quench-and-tempered — is documented on the EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate. For offshore Saudi Aramco platforms on SAEP-347 Annex 4 service lists, pipe with dual certification (A106/A53) and positive material identification (PMI) testing is available. Carbon steel seamless pipe for high-temperature service (above 400°C) is supplied as A335 alloy steel grade P11 or P22 for reformer and fired-heater piping applications in Jubail and Yanbu refineries.
Yes. All carbon steel pipe from Gulf Union Ozone is supplied with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates as standard. The 3.1 MTC includes chemical analysis, mechanical properties (tensile strength, yield strength, elongation), and the mill inspector's signature — the minimum documentation requirement for Saudi Aramco material procurement. EN 10204 3.2 (TPI-witnessed) certificates can be arranged on project order with advance notice. For full details on certificate types, see our EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate guide.
Pipe fitting and pipe procurement at Saudi Aramco sites follows a two-stage documentation process: Material Requisition from the project engineering team followed by Goods Receipt inspection at the plant gate. Gulf Union Ozone supports both stages — issuing material take-off tabulations for contractor MR submission, and providing EN 10204 3.1 MTCs, dimensional inspection records, and third-party inspection (TPI) certificates from SGS, Bureau Veritas, or Lloyd's Register for Goods Receipt compliance. Carbon steel pipe delivered to Aramco-operated facilities in Jubail, Dhahran, and Yanbu requires the Aramco Vendor Number (9COM) to appear on delivery documentation. Gulf Union Ozone holds a valid Saudi Aramco vendor number. All carbon steel pipe is traceable to heat number, cast number, and batch record — compliant with SAEP-347 material traceability requirements for piping component procurement.
Gulf Union Ozone carbon steel pipe supply serves every Saudi industrial region from the Jeddah warehouse: Jubail and Dammam same-day despatch for urgent shutdowns, 48–72 hour standard delivery; Al Khobar 72 hours; Yanbu 72 hours; Riyadh 72–96 hours. Emergency pipe supply for Saudi Aramco planned and unplanned turnarounds is a core service — common Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 sizes in A106 Gr B are held in bonded stock ready for same-day release. Large-diameter API 5L pipe for transmission pipeline projects is sourced from approved Saudi Aramco Qualified Products List manufacturers with a 4–8 week lead time depending on wall thickness. Pipe pre-fabrication services — cut-to-length, bevel end preparation, and hydrostatic testing — are available for Jubail and Jeddah project sites through our network of approved fabricators.
