Type 01

ATEX Cable Glands

Ex d (flameproof) and Ex e (increased safety) cable glands in nickel-plated brass, stainless 316 and aluminium for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas on Saudi Aramco and SABIC plants; IP66/IP68 rated. Thread forms include metric (M16–M100), BSP and NPT; IECEx certified for temperature classes T1–T6; cable OD ranges from 5 mm up to 68 mm; installation per IEC 60079-14.

Type 02

Armoured Cable Glands

SWA, DSTA and STA armoured cable glands in sizes M16–M100 with compression armour clamp; IP66/IP68, suitable for HV and LV power cables on Saudi industrial projects. Armour clamp grips SWA, DSTA and STA armour wires positively without cutting; inner seal and outer seal compress independently to handle wide tolerances on armoured cable sheath dimensions; earth continuity through the gland body.

Type 03

Conduit Fittings

ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2 conduit fittings — elbows, unions, female adaptors, male adaptors and sealing fittings in galvanised steel, aluminium and stainless; BSP, NPT and metric thread options. Sealing fittings are filled with approved cable sealing compound to prevent the passage of gas and flame along the conduit; required at every entry into an Ex d or Ex e enclosure per IEC 60079-14.

Type 04

Cable Cleats

Aluminium alloy and stainless steel cable cleats for single-core and trefoil three-core HV cables; rated to IEC 61914 for short-circuit withstand on Saudi substation cable runs. Short-circuit ratings of 25 kA, 40 kA and 63 kA peak current available; trefoil formation cleats maintain correct cable geometry on 11 kV and 33 kV circuits; IEC 61914 test reports supplied with each cleat type for engineering compliance.

Type 05

Junction Boxes

GRP and stainless ATEX Zone 1/2 junction boxes with Ex d or Ex e certification; IP66/IP67; terminal block configurations 4–60 way; cable-entry options pre-drilled or with blind knockouts. GRP (glass-reinforced polyester) boxes resist Saudi Arabia coastal corrosion; stainless steel Ex d boxes for offshore and high-temperature locations; DIN-rail terminal blocks; earth bar; lid gasket inspected and replaced at every service.

Type 06

Sealing Accessories

Cable-gland sealing washers, reducer rings, lockrings, counter flanges and thread-seal PTFE tape for correct installation of cable-gland assemblies to IEC 60079-14 (electrical installations in hazardous areas). Stopping plugs in nylon and brass to close unused cable-gland entries; reducer rings to adapt large apertures to smaller cable-gland sizes; earthing lockrings to maintain electrical earth continuity between gland and enclosure.

What cable gland type is required for Zone 1 hazardous areas on Saudi Aramco projects?

Saudi Aramco SAES-B-006 requires Ex d IIC (flameproof) or Ex e II (increased safety) cable glands for Zone 1 areas. Ex d glands are preferred for power cables entering junction boxes and motor terminal boxes; Ex e glands are used for instrumentation cables entering Ex e enclosures. All glands must be ATEX or IECEx certified and installed per IEC 60079-14. Gulf Union Ozone supplies glands in nickel-plated brass (for standard Zone 1 service), 316 stainless (for offshore or coastal Saudi projects) and aluminium (for weight-critical applications).

How are cable cleats rated for short-circuit withstand?

Cable cleats are tested to IEC 61914 by applying the peak short-circuit current force to the cable and cleat assembly. The cleat rating is expressed as maximum current (kA peak, e.g. 25 kA, 40 kA, 63 kA) for a specified cable spacing and number of cycles. For Saudi 33 kV or 132 kV HV cable installations, the cleat spacing and peak fault current are calculated from the system fault level; Gulf Union Ozone selects aluminium alloy or stainless steel trefoil cleats to match. IEC 61914 test reports are provided with each cleat type.

What is the difference between Ex d and Ex e cable glands?

Ex d (flameproof) glands are designed so that if an internal ignition occurs, the flame cannot propagate to the external hazardous atmosphere; they rely on long, close-tolerance flame paths in the gland body. They are mandatory for entries into Ex d enclosures (flameproof terminal boxes and junction boxes). Ex e (increased safety) glands prevent ignition by improved mechanical construction, keeping surface temperatures and sparking risk low; they are used with Ex e enclosures. Ex d glands can also be used in Ex e enclosures but not vice versa. Gulf Union Ozone's catalogue covers both types in M16–M100 metric threads.
