Which conveying system type suits cement transfer in a Saudi plant?

Dense-phase fluidised-bed conveying is the preferred choice for cement, fly ash and other fine, aerated powders. Operating at low velocity (1–4 m/s) and high pressure (0.5–3 bar), it minimises particle degradation, pipe wear and dust generation. System capacities of 5–200 t/h are achievable over conveying distances up to 500 m. Gulf Union Ozone has supplied dense-phase cement systems to Saudi Readymix, Yamama and Najran Cement plants.

What is the difference between pressure and vacuum dilute-phase conveying?

Pressure dilute-phase systems use a blower or compressor to push material from a pressurised source through the pipeline; they handle long distances (up to 300 m) and high flow rates but require rotary airlocks at entry. Vacuum dilute-phase systems draw material from open bins or bags using a vacuum pump; they are self-feeding (no airlocks needed at the pickup point) and ideal for multiple-source collection, but limited to shorter distances (up to 100 m) and lower pressures (−0.5 bar). For Saudi plants where hygiene and dust control are key, vacuum systems are preferred.

How do rotary airlock valves prevent conveying air from escaping into the hopper above?

Rotary airlocks work on a pressure-differential sealing principle: a rotating rotor with close-tolerance vanes in a cast housing creates multiple air-seal chambers. The differential pressure between the conveying line and the hopper above drives a small air leakage that is calculated and compensated in the system design. For very high differential pressures (>0.5 bar), double-rotor or triple-seal airlocks are used. Gulf Union Ozone supplies standard and ATEX-rated airlocks from stock in Jeddah.
