Saudi Aramco valves are governed by four key API standards: API 600 for full-size bolted-bonnet gate valves in NPS 4 and above (Class 150–2500), API 6D for pipeline ball valves and plug valves across the full size range, API 609 for butterfly valves up to Class 150 in non-ferrous body materials, and API 607 for fire-safe testing of soft-seated valves in hydrocarbon service. Body materials are determined by service conditions: ASTM A216 WCB carbon steel for general process service, ASTM A217 WC6 alloy steel for elevated-temperature service, ASTM A351 CF8M stainless for corrosive applications, and ASTM B148 aluminum bronze or B62 bronze for seawater and utility service. API 6D — Specification for Pipeline and Piping Valves — is the governing standard for ball valves used in pipeline service on Saudi Aramco projects. It covers full-bore and reduced-bore designs, trunnion-mounted and floating-ball configurations, and includes requirements for dimensional interchangeability, shell and seat testing, and marking.
For Aramco projects, API 6D ball valves are further qualified to 04-SAMSS-035 (General Requirements for Valves) and 04-SAMSS-048 (Valves for Special Services). The SAMSS requirements add Aramco-specific requirements for material certification, testing, and documentation on top of the base API 6D requirements.

API 6D ball valves for Saudi Aramco pipeline applications are specified when the valve must handle full pigging operations with an internal bore matching the pipeline bore. API 6D covers trunnion-mounted and floating-ball ball valves, plug valves, check valves, and gate valves for pipeline service from Class 150 to Class 2500 in sizes NPS 1 to NPS 60. SAEP-347 Annex 4 material numbers for API 6D valves cover carbon steel Class 150 through Class 900 and stainless steel Class 150 and 300.
